JFK airport evacuation: John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York was evacuated temporarily after authorities found a suspicious package on Sunday.

Officials told Reuters that the package turned out to be a tube of toothpaste wrapped in some duct tape.

The package was found around 4 p.m. and prompted evacuation order in Terminal 4 Concourse B, said a spokesman with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The terminal was opened again after more than an hour. Passengers weren’t allowed in the terminal until 5:15 p.m.

“We determined that it only contained toothpaste,” Officer James Duffy said after the New York City Police Department bomb squad was called to carry out an investigation.

CBS News reported that other than toothpaste, the package also contained wires.

A source earlier told WABC-TV that “a suspicious package was being boarded on to a plane.”
