Mark Sanchez passed for a season-best 328 yards Sunday for the Jets (3-4) but was hit and fumbled away the ball on a hard sack in overtime to seal the Patriots’ (4-3) 29–26 win in New England.
The Jets actually rang up more yards than the Patriots (403 to 381) but were done in by some critical turnovers.
In the second quarter with the Jets trailing 14–7 Sanchez’s handoff to Shonn Greene was fumbled into New England’s end zone, though Sanchez alertly kicked the ball out of bounds to take a safety.
On the team’s next possession Sanchez was intercepted just short of the goal line on a throw intended for an open Stephen Hill.
Still the Jets fought back erasing a 10-point fourth quarter deficit to take a 26–23 lead with 1:37 left. But Brady rallied the Patriots for a late field goal to send the game to overtime and then another to win it.
