Jennifer Beals, the Flashdance and The L Word actress, has turned down an offer to appear on Dancing With the Stars.

“I am not a dancer,” Beals said, according to People magazine.

“They asked me and I said ‘no.’ You could back up a truck to my door filled with cash and I wouldn’t do it.”

Beals went to the ballroom used by Dancing With the Stars a few years ago to visit her friend and fellow actress Marlee Matlin, and she knew then that she wouldn’t be on the show, citing the intensity of the show and the crowd.

“The sound of the audience is so loud and the energy in there is so intense,” Beals said, according to People. “I wanted to start crying just in feeling for her. I joked with Marlee and said, ‘You don’t know how lucky you are you can’t hear this.’ The noise level is so intense and people’s excitement level is so intense.”

“I could never,” she said. “I’m not that kind of a performer.”

Jennifer Beals currently stars on the Fox show The Chicago Code and plays a police superintendent.

Beals herself was born in Chicago and graduated from Yale. She has recently been in the film The Book of Eli and the show Lie to Me.

In 1983’s Flashdance, probably her best-known work, Beals played an 18-year-old who attempts to try out for a dance school. She had doubles do the parts where her character dances.

Dancing With the Stars will start its new season on March 21. The cast for the show will be announced on Feb. 28.
