Ivanka Trump, the daughter of President Donald Trump, posted a quote from Founding Father and third President Thomas Jefferson following the House’s vote on an impeachment inquiry resolution.

The Jefferson quote she shared reads: “Surrounded by enemies and spies catching and perverting every word that falls from my lips or flows from my pen, and inventing where facts fail them.” Jefferson wrote a letter while he was in Washington before sending it to his daughter, Martha Randolph, in February 1801.
“Some things never change, dad!” Ivanka wrote, referring to her father.

The statement comes after Democrats pushed a package of ground rules through a divided House in their impeachment inquiry into Trump.

The tally was 232-196, with all Republicans against the resolution and just two Democratic defectors joining them: freshman Rep. Jeff Van Drew (D-N.J.) and Rep. Collin Peterson (D-Minn.) voted against the measure.

The vote drew a familiar Twitter statement from Trump: “The greatest Witch Hunt in American History!”

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the Democrats are embarking on “unhinged obsession with this illegitimate impeachment proceeding.”

Pelosi and other Democrats said that the vote was part of their duty enshrined in the U.S. Constitution to impeach a president should he abuse his office. Republicans accused Democrats of holding secret testimonials away from the public eye, with one lawmaker, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) accusing them of using “Soviet-style” tactics. He included a communist hammer-and-sickle poster to emphasize his point.

“What is at stake in all this is nothing less than our democracy,” said Pelosi, who included a poster of the American flag.

The vote will also “show the other party has become the party of Trump. It’s really not the Republican Party any longer,” said Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Mich.).

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) accused Pelosi of reneging on a claim that the Democratic-led House won’t try to impeach Trump to derail the 2020 election.

“This House is so much better than what is transforming today,” he said, adding that there will be an “achievement of more subpoenas than laws.”
