Iron Man 3 will not be directed by Jon Favreau, the director announced Tuesday.
“It’s true, I’m directing Magic Kingdom, not Iron Man 3,” Favreau tweeted. “I’ve had a great run with Marvel and wish them the best.”
Favreau will spurn the billion-dollar franchise about an engineer named Tony Stark (played by Rober Downey Jr.) who wears a superhero suit, and has signed onto Magic Kingdom, a Disney project based off the theme park and its characters.
The filmmaker who directed the first two Iron Man films told MTV News that he didn’t really have an idea about what Iron Man 3 is going to be about.
“In theory, ‘Iron Man 3’ is going to be a sequel or continuation of ‘Thor,’ ‘Hulk,’ ‘Captain America’ and ‘Avengers,’” he told MTV. “This whole world ... I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.”
Iron Man 3 is currently set to be released in theaters on May 3, 2013, according to IMDB.com.
