NEW YORK—One friend shed tears and both were blown away by the soprano at Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra’s performance at Carnegie Hall on Oct. 5.

Sherryl James-Rosario, an investment analyst, saw the show with her friend Orna, an operations manager at an Internet start-up.

“It’s been amazing. I actually cried the whole time,” said Orna.

Orna said she goes to the opera a lot, but it was the first time she had been to a concert that combined Eastern and Western music. Before the show, she was unsure whether she would like it.

“It actually amazed me how harmonic it is and how I like it,” she said. “And it’s amazing. It’s so pure.”

She was impressed by the size of the orchestra.

“First of all, the amount of people—it’s very, very big. You can sense the amount of violins, and wow, you can really sense there’s so many people on stage, and it’s very, very powerful,” Orna said.

“Also the voices that we heard. And the mixture of the conductors were great.” she said.

The power of the orchestra and the unique sound impressed James-Rosario.

“Because I can hear some of the Chinese traditional instruments mixed with the instruments we are used to—I love it. It comes together really, really well,” she said. “It’s just beautiful.”
