In the Queens neighborhood of Elmhurst, locals like to keep their style casual. By: Joanna Nikas, Natalia V. Osipova and Fritzie Andrade.

“The style of Elmhurst is casual, easy-going, [with] a lot of Asians and Indians. Sometimes I decide what I want to wear the night before and next morning I just think differently,” said Epoch Times graphic designer Ann Chen. “This blazer is my favorite. One day I didn’t check the weather and the temperature dropped a lot. I felt really cold so I just run in some random shop on the street, looking for something warmer. [That’s how] I found this jacket.”

Tashi Sangpo, inspired by a samurai, cut his hair in the same style. His favorite designer is Prabal Gurung because “he is passionated about his clothing [and] about his designed.”

Favorite designer of an artist Aaron Savage is Ralph Lauren: “He’s been my favorite designer since I started buying clothes, because when I was a youngster, I just remember my mum dressing me a polo shirts and a polo dark denim jeans. [But] if I had to say who my fashion icon is, it’s my mum.”

For Aaron, Elmhurst is a big mix of cultures and ethnic groups. And that’s also the source of his inspiration: “The cuts are different, the traditional styles are different. Just look around--it’s wonderful.”
