BRISBANE, Australia—Internet business owner Jeannette Dysterveldt was among the audience at Shen Yun Performing Art’s third show this year in Australia, and said she was dazzled by it.
“I think it’s fantastic,” Ms. Dysterveldt said at Brisbane’s Lyric Theatre on Saturday night, Feb. 2. “It’s really good, it’s beyond expectation.”
On the back of sell-out shows in Los Angeles, the Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company arrived in Brisbane this week for 2013’s first Australian performances.
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese culture through music and dance. Its performances include the world’s foremost classically trained dancers, a unique orchestra that blends Eastern and Western instruments, vibrant digital backdrops, and bel canto singers. The Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company is one of three Shen Yun companies simultaneously touring the world.
Ms. Dysterveldt, who owns an online training company, said she was most impressed by the “innovative” digital backdrops which interact with the dancers.
“People sort of come out of the background; that’s very good, very creative,” she said.
“The costumes were really colourful and innovative. Nice dancing, even the men, you don’t expect the men to do all the twirling and tumbling, different to normal dance. And the music is very nice; it’s very creative for the dance, very soft.”
Ms. Dysterveldt said she would recommend the show to her friends.
“I would say go and see it. It’s a different experience and it’s something completely different onstage to what you expect.”
