SEBRING, FLA.—One interesting debate sparked by the merger of the American Le Mans Series and the Rolex Sports Car Series into the current series, the Tudor United Sportscar Championship was which drivers from which series would prove fastest?
After the first day of practice for the 62nd Sebring 12 Hours Thursday, the answer is clear: the fastest drivers in TUSC come from IndyCar.
Two-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon, who turned in the best lap in the first session in his #02 Ganasssi Riley-Ford, lapped Sebring’s 17 turns in the dark in 1:53.09, half a second quicker than another IndyCar driver, Sebastian Bourdais in the 2014 Rolex-winning #5 Action Express Coyote-Corvette. Third in the night session was Justin Wilson in the #60 Shank Racing Riley-Ford. Wilson was quickest in the afternoon session—and Wilson is also an IndyCar driver.
Multiple Rolex champion Scott Pruett in the #01 Ganassi Riley-Ford was the only TUSC regular to crack the top five, a full 1,.3 seconds slower than Dixon.
