Idina Menzel’s name in the Broadway musical If/Then was changed to Adele Dazeem after John Travolta misread her name from the teleprompter during the 86th Oscars last Sunday.
Travolta was chosen as a presenter to invite Menzel on stage to sing the Oscar-winning original title “Let it Go.” Menzel voiced the character who sang the song in the Oscar-winning animation feature “Frozen.”
The producers of the new musical decided to play along with the name during the Tuesday dress rehearsals, and made a few adjustments. A member of the team, Janet Krupin, uploaded an image of the Playbill onto her twitter account which listed Menzel as Adele Dazeem.
Other changes in her bio included her roles as “Ephraima in Wicke-ly” and “Mortiz in Trent,” according to Daily News.
These terms refer to her real-life Broadway roles Elphaba in “Wicked” and Maureen Johnson in “Rent.”
Travolta later sent a statement via his publicist to CNN. “I’ve been beating myself up all day. Then I thought...what would Idina Menzel say She'd say, Let it go, let it go! Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night!” Travolta said.
