Ibragim Todashev, the Flordia man who was shot and killed by the FBI, was “directly involved” with a triple homicide in 2011 in Waltham, Mass., according to a report.
A source in law enforcement told CNN that “during questioning, it became clear that he was involved in the murders.”
Todoshev had ties with Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was shot and killed a month ago. Tsarnaev was considered a suspect in the grisly Waltham murders in which three victims were found with their throats slit and with marijuana deposited on their bodies.
Tsarnaev was also a good friend with one of the victims, Brandon Mess. He was also from the Russian region of Chechnya, where Tsarnaev was from.
On Wednesday, an FBI agent shot and killed Todoshev in Orlando, Fla., while they were investigating if he was involved in the Boston bombings, reported CNN.
The agent shot him in self-defense when he was questioned by an agent, two Massachusetts State Police troopers, and other law enforcement officers.
FBI spokesman Jason Pack said that “a violent confrontation was initiated by the individual,” causing agents to shoot him. The FBI agent who was attacked “sustained non-life-threatening injuries,” he added.
Before the incident, Todashev implicated himself and Tsarnaev in the murders, reported WESH-TV. Sources told the station that Todashev and Tsarnaev killed the three to rip them off over drugs.
Investigators said Todashev attacked agents with a knife as he was going to sign a confession.
