A sizable hole formed on a road in Madera, California, on April 11 as sewer pipe broke and waste water flushed away soil under the road.
Madera police posted a video of the collapsing road on its Facebook page, saying it was about 15-20 feet deep.

The road caved in around 1 p.m. on Schnoor Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets, and by evening a contractor worked out a bypass of the sewer line, according to the police department’s release.
No one was injured in the incident and “the hole has not significantly increased since Monday afternoon,” police said.
