Speed.com reports that longtime IndyCar team HVM Racing plans to enter the LMP2 class of the World Endurance Championship for 2013.

With leadership changes leaving IndyCar’s future shaky, team owner Keith Wiggins sees WEC as a great place to do business.

“The instability of IndyCar and having all your eggs in one basket is always a risk, unless you can turn yourself into a multi-car team,” Wiggins told Speed.com. ““The WEC is obviously going to grow and it’s fairly defined. From a marketing and sponsorship standpoint, it’s on a world stage, which is good.”

Wiggins said he was evaluating chassis available for the ever-more-popular P2 class, including Oreca, HPD, and even Lola, surprisingly. He used to be president of Lola Cars International, and thinks the chassis is good despite the company’s financial problems.

Wiggins didn’t rule out an entry in the American Le Mans Series, but wanted to wait until the 2014 regulations were published. “Now wouldn’t be a time to be barreling in there with a whole bunch of equipment in a category you’re not sure what will look like in a year’s time.”
