A video has surfaced online of a homeless man returning a wallet to a man after he dropped it to the floor on a busy street in New York. The man in question was Waqas Shah who was conducting a social experiment to see how the homeless man would react. Little did he realize that the man would teach him more than he bargained for.
After returning the wallet the homeless man points to the place where it was dropped and hands it over with all the contents still intact, much to Shah’s surprise. When asked why he gave him back his wallet, the homeless man answers honestly, “Giving back is what you do. I don’t steal.” To show his appreciation of the man’s honesty, Shah gives him a reward before leaving, obviously moved by what had just happened.
But to everyone’s surprise, the experiment is far from over as the camera follows the homeless man down the road to find out exactly what he would do with the money. In another surprising move, the man heads to a nearby food cart where he buys three sets of meals before heading over to a group of other homeless people and distributing the food to them.
Surprised at what he had just seen, Shah returns and asks the homeless man why he has been so generous to which the man replies, “Giving back is the thing to do. The more you give the more you get.” He then goes on to explain that he is an army veteran and that his wife is currently pregnant. Clearly touched by the man’s attitude and generosity, Shah promptly hugs him before giving him even more cash and wishing him all the best.
