The Miami Heat have signed former Knick center Josh Harrellson, according to a report on the NBA’s website.
The 23-year-old Harrellson averaged 4.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game last season as a rookie. He played in all five postseason games for New York in a losing effort against the Heat.
The Kentucky grad was drafted by the Hornets in the second round, 45th overall pick, of the 2011 NBA Draft and then immediately dealt to the Knicks for cash.
Following the 2011-12 season, the Knicks packaged him along with Toney Douglas, Jerome Jordan, and two second-round picks to the Rockets for Marcus Camby. Harrellson was then released in August.
The Heat have an obvious need for a center and the 6-foot, 10-inch 275-pound Harrellson should compete for playing time.
