NEW YORK—After website problems blocked people from enrolling in health plans during the first day of enrollment, about 12,000 business owners and individuals across the state shopped online on the second day of enrollment, Oct. 2, via NY State of Health’s marketplace.
The executive director of NY State of Health, Donna Frescatore said New York’s health insurance exchange had experienced the highest level of web traffic of any state, with nearly 30 million visits. The call-in-center operators took questions from about 9,000 people.
The website still had some problems today, because of the “significant levels of activity.” Some users had difficulty entering the site and submitting their applications.
“In response to these issues, our technicians have doubled the site’s capacity and are working around the clock to troubleshoot emerging problems and ensure users have a better experience going forward,” Frescatore said.
An estimated 1.1 million New Yorkers are expected to obtain health insurance through NY State of Health by 2016.
