A Harry Potter book 8 is purportedly on the way, but the news is actually a hoax perpetuated by a fake press release.
The fake release claims that several news outlets confirmed J.K. Rowling is writing the eight Harry Potter novel, and is already 75% done with the manuscript,.”
“Details on the storyline are hush hush, but Rowling is said to be revealing more about the upcoming HP novel later this very week in a press conference in Scotland,” the fake release states.”
“Rowling is said to be disappointed to the reaction of her adult novel ‘The Casual Vacancy’, released last fall, which left readers worldwide perplexed and disappointed. She was discouraged particularly by the disappointment of the younger readers, who picked up The Casual Vacancy expecting another Harry Potter book. She wanted to go back and write a book that will be a treat to her fans all around the world.”
Regarding the possibility of writing another Harry Potter novel, Rowling says on her website:
“I have always refused to say ‘never’ to this question, because I think it would be foolish to rule out something I might want to do in a few years’ time. However, I have no immediate plans to write another Harry Potter novel, and I do think that I have rounded off Harry’s story in the seven published books.”
The fake release then moves on to the potential ninth film in the Harry Potter series, which is somewhat true.
Rowling is working on “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” which is set in the world of Harry Potter, and is a story inspired by a school book at Hogwarts written by Newt Scamander.
“Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world,” Rowling said in a statement.
“The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.”
