A band of gunmen on motorcycles shot and killed a Saudi diplomat near the Saudi consulate in Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi, on Monday, media reported.
Pakistan’s Taliban had at first claimed responsibility for the attack, but then denied it, AFP reported.
Spokesman for the Tehrik-i-Taliban said it supported the killing. “Had we done it, we would have claimed it,” he told AFP.
This is the second attack on the consulate in less than a week. Last Wednesday, a group on motorbikes threw two grenades at the consulate, but no one was killed.
Officials are investigating Taliban and sectarian links to the attacks.
The murdered diplomat, Hassan Misfer Al-Qahtani, was a security official on his way to work at the consulate when he was shot.
Both Saudi and Pakistani officials will investigate the killing, Reuters reported.
