Last week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas once again delivered the goods by providing us with an overwhelming display of weird and wonderful new tech products.
From Wifi coffee machines that could be remotely trigged to produce a beverage of your choice, to electronic roller-skates that could propel you down the street at high speed, there was nothing that the exciting new world of technology couldn’t be applied to.
4K televisions
The hottest trend of the show had to be 4K televisions. Featuring a super-high resolution technology, the so-called Ultra HD televisions deliver four times the detail of standard HD televisions.
With all of the big players such Sony, Samsung and LG releasing new models, it’s going to be interesting to see who can capitalise on our ever-growing demand for a hyper-realistic viewing experience.
The new televisions will all let viewers watch streaming content without the need for streaming devices such as Apple TV. So you'll soon be able to easily switch between watching a streamed film on Amazon, go to a betting website such as http://www.bettingsports.com, and then switch over back to some standard terrestrial television!
Wearables
But whilst televisions are undoubtedly getting bigger, there was another trend that sought to downsize the gadgets we own, and that was the rise of wearable technology.
Wearable technology struck it big this year with a whole host of fitness-related products that could monitor your body fat index, muscle mass and heart rate from very discreet armband.
Plus there was the inevitable rise of the smartwatch. Whilst most of the big players are saving their flagship smartwatches for later in the year, there were still some very creative and stylish watches on offer.
And pick of the bunch had to be the HereO child’s watch that when hooked up to an app on your phone could tell you your child’s location through GPS, and also featured a very useful panic button.
The internet of things
And finally, the internet of things really hit it big at CES this year. There was a whole host of amazing new products designed to make your life easier by getting a variety of devices to adapt their behaviour according to your needs.
So there were doors that could be locked or unlocked via your smartphone, ceiling fans that could automatically govern the room’s temperature, and best of all had to be an Audi boss summoning a new Audi self-drive car to the stage merely through selecting a function on his new LG smartwatch!
