Coming to ‘The View’
Reality show star Kate Gosselin will join the panel of hosts on ABC’s “The View” as a substitute for Elisabeth Hasselbeck who is on maternity leave. The mother of eight and subject of recent tabloid fodder will appear on the show on September 14 and 15.
Bob Dylan to Release Christmas Album
Singer/songwriter Bob Dylan has recorded a new album for charity. “Christmas in the Heart,” his 47th album, will be released by Columbia Records this fall. The rock legend plans to donate all royalties to the organization, “Feeding America,” and international royalties to charities overseas. A “Feeding America” representative said in a statement, “This major initiative from such a world renowned artist and cultural icon will directly benefit so many people and have a major impact on spreading awareness of the epidemic of hunger in this country and around the world.” “Christmas in the Heart” will be available on October 13.
Christopher Plummer Returns to Shakespearean Roots
Ontario’s renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival announced its 2010 slate this week. Included will be a portrayal by Tony Award winner Christopher Plummer who will take on the role of Prospero in Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.” Among other titles featured in the coming year will “As You Like It,” “The Winter’s Tale,” and “The Two Gentlemen of Verona.” The festival runs annually from April through November.
TiVo Sues Competitors
Digital video recorder company, TiVo, has filed a lawsuit against AT&T and Verizon, claiming patent infringement with regard to the companies’ DVR units. TiVo, the originator of the ubiquitous DVR unit, has had some success with similar action against satellite provider Dish Network. The company has recently suffered significant subscriber erosion and posted a second quarter financial loss.
Parker Posey Out with Illness
Actress Parker Posey has withdrawn from her role in Off-Broadway play “This,” which was scheduled to preview in November, after contracting Lyme disease. No further information about Posey’s condition has been released. The play by Melissa James Gibson is planning to continue as scheduled at the Mainstage Theater, with a replacement to be announced soon.
