‘Davy Crockett’ Star Dies
Actor Fess Parker, best known for his role as Davy Crockett in Disney’s, “Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier,” has died.Parker’s portrayal of the legendary American frontiersman sparked the wild popularity of coonskin caps among young boys in the 1950’s. Throughout his career, he took on roles in a number of other Disney projects, as well as that of Daniel Boone in a 1960s network television series.
Later in life, he became a real estate developer, establishing hotels and wineries in northern California. His website describes his involvement in numerous civic organization and especially his passion for the work of The Performing Arts Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara.
Parker leaves behind his wife of 50 years, 2 children, 11 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson.
Journalist Christiane Amanpour Changing Venues
In a recent email to his staff, ABC News President David Westin announced the appointment of renowned journalist Christiane Amanpour to the anchor desk of ABC’s Sunday morning show “This Week.”
“I am delighted to announce that Christiane Amanpour will join ABC News as the new anchor of ‘This Week.’ A highly respected journalist recognized around the world for her reporting, she brings to her new position a wealth of experience and knowledge, as well as a deep commitment to bringing news of the world to the American people,” he said.
“She will also appear on all other ABC News programs and platforms to provide international analysis of the important issues of the day. And, she will be anchoring prime time documentaries on international subjects.”
Amanpour will relinquish her current role as CNN’s Chief International Correspondent. The journalist will make her move in August.
Portman, Kutcher to Collaborate
Actors Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher are set to co-star in the upcoming romantic comedy Friends with Benefits, according to Variety.
The film will be directed by Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters) and will begin shooting in May.
Friends is expected to hit theaters on January 7, 2011.
Liza Minnelli Chicago Bound
Legendary entertainer Liza Minnelli is scheduled to play a one-night-only concert on June 6 at the Chicago Theatre.
Minnelli will cover “American Standards” along with her quartet and musical director Billy Stritch on June 6.
In a certainly different project, Minnelli can also be seen in the latest installment of the popular Snickers ad campaign, “You’re not you when you’re hungry,” following in the footsteps of Betty White.
Tickets for the Chicago show go on sale Saturday, March 20.
