This Is What Happens When Grandpa Tries to Return ‘Back to the Future’ Air Mags for Store Credit

In this day and age, many people have the impression that more and more of the population—especially our young people—and becoming dishonest. The value of truthfulness and honesty seem to be devalued when compared to the high priority placed on these traits in the past. But is this really the case?

In a bizarre attempt at a social experiment-cross-prank, Youtuber Sole Fire Sneakers made a seemingly ordinary request to his Grandfather; could he return a pair of sneakers and get them exchanged for store credit?

The catch? The sneakers in question were actually an ultra-rare pair of Nike Air Mags, based off of Marty McFly’s self-lacing sneakers from the movie Back to the Future. Not sounding all that amazing yet? Well, let me explain further; these sneakers are actually a limited edition, and the beauties can sell for $13,000 on a normal day. In fact, one pair that was sold in Hong Kong went as high as $100,000!

The experiment was incredibly simple: would the employees of the local stores be honest and tell him the truth about the sneakers’ value, or would they downplay the sneakers’ true worth and offer the poor man a small credit note?

One would probably expect that of all of the stores the Grandfather-Grandson duo visited, at least one of the employees would have at least down-valued the sneakers to a degree or even offered a credit note at all. And yet, despite our expectations, every single employee brought up the sneakers in question online to show the seemingly-clueless Grandfather just how much they were worth. None of them offered the credit note, either.

All in all, it’s wonderfully reassuring to know that, despite most people’s expectations, there is genuine decency left in our world.
