Grand American Road Racing announced that it would not bring back its “B-Spec” support series for subcompact cars, the Performance Showcase series.
The series ran at six Grand-Am Rolex events in 2012, but attracted few cars and fewer fans.
“B-Spec is a concept that is still developing,” said Grand Am President and CEO Ed Bennett on the Grand Am website. “And while car counts for our competition have not reached acceptable levels, the car specs are somewhat universal and eligible for entry into other U.S. series.
“We remain open to revisiting the competition at a later date and we want to express our appreciation for those showcase teams that raced with us this year, while also thanking our partners who were involved.”
Performance Showcase featured subcompacts like the Mazda 2, Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta, Mini Cooper, and Kia Rio, with stock engine and chassis, modified suspension, racing tires, and safety equipment like roll cages and fire extinguishers
The class was affordable but apparently not very exciting. Most events saw half-a-dozen cars at most.
