NEW YORK—Gov. Andrew Cuomo recommended Patrick J. Foye as the new executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) Wednesday, although the final decision will be made by the Port Authority Board.
Foye has, up until now, served as the governor’s deputy secretary of economic development. He has also represented Nassau County as a board member of the MTA.
“Pat Foye and the rest of the team are excellent additions to the Authority’s team,” said Steve Spinola, president of the Real Estate Board in New York, in the press release. “Pat’s extensive management experience and keen knowledge of New York’s fiscal make him especially suited for transforming the Port Authority into an economic engine.”
The previous Port Authority head Chris Ward stepped down at the end of September. Ward will leave his position at the end of October, and will become an adviser to the Port Authority.
“We hope Patrick Foye continues his predecessor’s record of accomplishments,” said Paul Steely White, executive director of Transportation Alternatives in a statement. “As a member of the MTA’s board, Patrick Foye knows firsthand the perils underfunded infrastructure present to the metropolitan area.”
Cuomo also announced that the operations of the Moynihan Station Development Corporation and the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation will be reorganized to become part of Port Authority.
