An armed man was shot dead while trying to make a citizen’s arrest of another man who had just shot his girlfriend in the parking lot of a Texas pharmacy.

The shooter, 22-year-old Ricci Bradden, had gotten an argument with his girlfriend and then shot her in the leg. Anthony Antell, 35, saw the incident and got out of his car with his own gun and approached Bradden, attempting to make a citizen’s arrest.

“The good Samaritan tried to stop him, pointed his firearm at the suspect, told him to stop,” police Lt. Chris Cook said, the NY Daily News reports. “Suspect exited his vehicle and exchanged gunfire with the good Samaritan, killing unfortunately the good Samaritan.”

Bradden was later turned in to the police.

Antell was shot dead in front of his wife, with whom he has three children. Bradden’s girlfriend is expected to survive.

“I just can’t imagine going through that,” Cook said.

Bradden was later turned in to the police by a family member.

Antell and his wife own a Crossfit Abattoir, a fitness center.
