Global Q&A: ‘What was the most important event in your country during the year?’
Puerto Montt, Chile: Marcela Gonsález, 40, Saleswoman: There were many events of great importance that affected my country this year, but I would like to highlight one that caught my attention in particular, and had to do with the strength and solidarity aspect of my countrymen. There was a big fire that ravaged the city of Valparaiso, reducing to ashes thousands of houses, leaving many with their arms crossed and without anything—just with what they had on, in total helplessness. With the solidarity of many people including the government, they managed to rebuild their lives and from the outside it looked like nothing had ever happened at all. It is very remarkable and impressive.
