Global Q&A: ‘What 5 things would you put in a time capsule today to represent your country to the future?’

Envigado, Colombia: Adriana María Velásquez, 50, Bachelor of Performing Arts: It is the toughest question I have ever been asked, because to only choose five things to bury in a time capsule from this abundant country is difficult. The first thing I would put in is all our rivers, two oceans, lakes, coffee, different climates, our biodiversity, panela—which is as important as our coffee—cycling, which is a representative sport of our country amongst others, and Colombian friendliness, because we welcome everyone. What I would highlight the most would be our environmental richness or biodiversity, for it acts as the world’s lungs. Note: Panela is unrefined whole cane sugar.

Time capsules for future generations should contain valued heritage items, cultural symbols, relics, experiences, animals, and produce. This is what Epoch Times reporters from areas such as Colombia to the United Arab Emirates discovered when they asked locals, “What 5 things would you put in a time capsule today to represent your country to the future?”
