Rumors about Gina Carano, the MMA fighter-turned-actress, starring as DC Comics superhero Wonder Woman have popped up in recent days after a “Wonder Woman” short film went viral on YouTube.

Several reports have speculated that if a full-length “Wonder Woman” film were made, Carano--who fought in Strikeforce and EliteXC--would be in line to play the heroine.

It has not been confirmed that the 31-year-old Texas native will be cast in a film, or if a Wonder Woman movie is in the works. But with the “Man of Steel” Superman reboot this year, some have wondered if a Wonder Woman movie could be on the way.

The rumors appear to have been sparked by the short film and an interview she gave in August. “That’s the ultimate superhero for a woman,” she told MTV.

“No matter what, no matter who ends up being Wonder Woman someday, I just hope it’s something that is done correctly. I know it’s there and that it could definitely be done correctly. It’s just a matter of getting the right people and having the right vision come together. A director and producer and writer have to see the beauty in it and make it real,” she added.

Carano is slated to appear in “In The Blood” from Anchor Bay Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox, according to the Hollywood Reporter. She has already appeared in “Fast and Furious 6“ and “Haywire.”

Rainfall Films released a short film about Wonder Woman several days ago

The film--which doesn’t include Carano--has generated millions of views.

“We spent the majority of 2013 working on this -- the look, the feel, the aspects we most wanted to portray. It’s a scant two and half minutes, but in the end, it’s one hundred and fifty seconds of pure fantasy, where I get to consider the two sides of my favorite warrior: a crusader in man’s world, and a paragon of virtue told through Greek mythology,” the film studio said.
