New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin announced Tuesday that 12-year defensive tackle Shaun Rogers has been lost for the season with a blood clot in his left calf, according to a report on the team’s website.
“It’s very sad, because … he lost 50 pounds,” Coughlin. “The only way I guess they can control these things are with these drugs, these blood-thinning drugs. Once you do that, obviously you’re done.”
Rogers, a three-time Pro Bowler was expected to provide the Giants with some much-needed depth up front. But he, along with reserve defensive tackle Martin Parker (back), are now both out for the season with injuries.
“I thought we were as deep there as we were at any position on the team,” Coughlin said of the defensive tackles when training camp began. “It’s not that way right now.”
