In his latest blog post on Friday afternoon, author of “A Song of Ice and Fire,” which was adapted into the popular fantasy HBO show “Game of Thrones,” George R. R. Martin explained why he thinks the show has a chance of winning in the upcoming Emmys Awards show.
In the entry Martin went back to the time he introduced his fantasy novels to the audience at the world con (world science fiction convention) and how the hype has grown around the novel series, and subsequently the TV show adaptation.
“Game of Thrones,” was nominated for an Emmy in “Outstanding Drama Series” this year and will be competing against “Breaking Bad,” “Downton Abbey,” “House of Cards,” “Mad Men,” and “True Detective.”
The show was nominated for 16 Emmys last year, two of which they took home. Martin wrote that although the competition is tough, you can never know what the judges decide.
“‘Game of Thrones’ collected its third Hugo in a row, in a stunning upset over ’Doctor Who',” he wrote.
“And now I am [in] LA, wondering if we can do it again in the Emmys, and somehow shock the world by coming up ahead of ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘True Detective.’ They are the overwhelming consensus choices... but so was ‘Doctor Who.’”
The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards will air on NBC on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 9pm EST.
