Lucasfilm is capturing the Star Wars obsession on film.

George Lucas’ production company is recording fans’ memories of how the epic saga has influenced their lives since Star Wars was released in 1977.

Mr. Lucas, the mastermind behind the series, mentioned the iconic status of Star Wars in the prologue of a new booked called Star Wars: Year by Year.

Star Wars has become so ingrained in the cultural psyche that world leaders have defined themselves with reference to it,” he said in a statement.

Dubbed the Stories Project, the fans video will include footage from the mega-Star Wars convention Celebration V which is running in Orlando, Florida, from 11 to 15 August.

{etRelate40521}At the moment, the focus is on speaking with fans and collecting stories.  Lucasfilm says there will definitely be a market for the stories but is as yet undecided what it will do with the video.

Mr. Lucas is also in the headlines for his generous gesture towards The Giving Pledge. He is one of the 40 billionaires that Bill Gates and Warren Buffett have persuaded to donate half of their wealth to charity.
