George Lopez, the host of TBS‘ late night show ‘Lopez Tonight’ got laid off last night. But after a two season run on TBS, the comedian didn’t seem to take the news too seriously. Hollywood Reporter wrote that ’Lopez Tonight‘ was cancelled because the show didn’t reach a large enough viewership compared to his late night competition, especially shows like the Conan O’Brian show ’Conan.'
“The unemployment rate is high, and for Latinos, it just got a little higher!” Lopez joked on his show after he heard about the cancellation, according to NY Daily News. What’s next for the TV host, fans might ask. Well, George Lopez seems to have kept his old self. He joked about finally loosing ‘that unwanted 110 pounds’ he wanted to lose.
Lopez has been performing comedy since 1983. He has released four stand-up albums and did voice overs in many animated films. Just before he began his late night talk show, Lopez finished a six-year long sitcom ‘George Lopez’ in 2008.
Lopez however has an accomplished friend whom he calls his ‘fairy godmother,’ Sandra Bullock. “If it wasn’t for her involvement in me, or her belief in me, I would have had a very different last 10 years,” George Lopez told People magazine. Lopez said Bullock invested and had faith in him. “Every day I thank her for believing in me,” he said.
For now, Lopez does not have any defined plans for the future. “I live every day like an 11th grader... I try to enjoy myself and live life every day,” he explained, according to People.
