General Motors will dump its Mr. Goodwrench brand of auto-repair locations in the United States, according to the Detroit Free Press, citing Greg Heinrich, owner of a Las Vegas Chevrolet dealership and Chevrolet divisional representative on GM’s National Dealer Council.
Instead, General Motors will name its dealership services after its four car brands: Chevrolet Certified Service, Cadillac Certified Service, GMC Certified Service, and Buick Certified Service, Heinrich told the Detroit Free Press.
GM is expected to make an official announcement later this week.
GM has publicly declared that it wants to focus on its core brands amidst the completion of its restructuring and planning for an IPO. Earlier this year, GM jettisoned its Pontiac, Saturn, and Hummer brands, and its strategy seems to have paid off, as the Detroit automaker last week announced a preliminary net income of about $2 billion for Q3 2010.
