A gauge containing radioactive materials has gone missing after it fell off a truck in West Virginia, according to reports.
Officials say the gauge did not turn up after it fell off a truck on Interstate 81 in West Virginia on May 3, according to CBS Pittsburgh. It fell between mile markers 17 and 24.
“It is critical for anyone who has information about the lost nuclear gauge to contact the Pennsylvania DEP, Nuclear Regulatory Commission or a local law enforcement agency immediately,” Department of Environmental Protection Bureau of Radiation Protection Director David Allard said in a statement obtained by CBS.
“As long as the device is not tampered with or damaged, it presents no hazard to public safety.”
FOX 43 television reported that the Troxler Model 3430 with serial number 32506 gauge, which is bright yellow, contains sealed sources of radioactive material.
