Gandhi blood for sale: Two microscope slides that contain the blood of Mahatma Gandhi are going on sale in London and are expecting to get tens of thousands of dollars.
The slides were gathered in 1924 when Gandhi, the former Indian leader, when he got an appendectomy near Mumbai, reported Reuters. They are expected to get between $15,000 and $23,000.
“To Gandhi devotees, it has the same status as a sacred relic to a Christian,” Richard Westwood-Brookes, a historical documents expert with the auction house selling the slides, told the news agency. “It is an artefact which is revered by disciples of Gandhi, particularly in India and therefore that is the sort of person who would go for it,” he continued.
A pair Gandhi’s sandals are also up for sale, reported the Wall Street Journal. Other items, including a drinking cup and prayer beads that are being sold, were handed down through the family.
A letter written by Gandhi recently sold for $175,000 in the United Kingdom, according to the paper.
“Obviously people see these record prices and, if they have something similar themselves, they like to think that it might do as well,” Westwood-Brookes said.
