“Game of Thrones” reigns supreme.
The popular HBO series grabbed 23 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, during a live broadcast at the Wolf Theater in Hollywood on July 14.
The other nominees for Outstanding Drama Series includes: “The Americans” (FX),“House of Cards” (Netflix), “Downton Abbey” (PBS), “Better Call Saul” (AMC), “Mr. Robot” (USA), and “Homeland” (Showtime).
Nominations for Outstanding Reality Competition Series include: “The Amazing Race” (CBS), “The Voice” (NBC), “Dancing With the Stars” (ABC), “Top Chef” (Bravo), “American Ninja Warrior” (NBC), and “Project Runway” (Lifetime).
Viola Davis, who won in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category last year, is nominated again for “How to Get Away With Murder” (ABC). Others nominees include: Robin Wright, “House of Cards” (Netflix), Claire Danes, “Homeland” (Showtime), Taraji P. Henson, “Empire” (Fox), Keri Russell, “The Americans” (FX), and Tatiana Maslany, “Orphan Black” (BBC America).
Surprisingly popular series, “Orange is the New Black” didn’t receive a nomination. The fourth season premiered on June 17 and was watched by 6.7 million viewers during its opening weekend, according to Nielsen.
Jimmy Kimmel will again host this year’s awards ceremony. The late-night talk show and funnyman previously hosted in 2012.
“I am excited to be hosting the Emmys again. I have a feeling I’m going to be great,” Kimmel said.
Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, is excited to have Kimmel return.
“Jimmy Kimmel is the consummate showman,” said Dungey in a press release. “With Kimmel at the helm, expect to be at the edge of your seat for a bigger, bolder, and better-than-ever Emmy event.”
The nominations for the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced by actor Anthony Anderson of ABC’s “Black-ish” and Lauren Graham of “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.” They were joined by Chairman and CEO of the Television Academy Bruce Rosenblum.
