Futurama canceled: The television show will end after this season.
Futurama, a show about a slacker and his friends in the 31st century, is coming to an end, again.
The show was previously brought back in 2007 for four direct-to-DVD films, which aired on Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, along with re-runs. Another 26 episodes were ordered in 2011, split up into a two-part seventh season.
But the show won’t continue after one last season, airing as 13 episodes this summer.
“I’m very proud of the upcoming season,” said Matt Groening, co-creator of the show, and The Simpsons, in a statement. “If this is indeed the end of Futurama, it’s a fantastic finish to a good, long run."
The premiere of the season will be two back-to-back episodes on June 19 at 10 p.m., according to a press release. A slew of guest stars lined up for the animated series include Larry Bird, George Takei, and Sarah Silverman.
