In a recent interview with a UK publication The Guardian, pop singer Lana Del Rey answered a questions about her musical heroes. With people like Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse who both died young, the reporter then asked Del Rey if she thought that an early death is glamorous.
“I don’t know. Ummm, yeah. I wish I was dead already,” Del Rey said in the interview.
Then, daughter of the famous musician Kurt Cobain, Francis Bean Cobain took to twitter to tell the 28-year-old to stop romanticizing about death.
“The death of young musicians isn’t something to romanticize,” Francis Bean Cobain tweeted on the weekend. She also told Del Rey to embrace life because you only get one life. “The people you mentioned wasted life, don’t be one of those people,” she continued.
Del Rey was probed on her views about death because of the recent attention put on her lyrics and song choice. She marked her breakthrough into the industry with her 2012 album “Born to Die.” Her recently released album “Ultraviolence,” which features tracks like “Cruel World,” “Sad Girl,” and “Pretty When You Cry,” has already climbed to the top of the charts.
In response to Cobain’s message, Del Rey then expressed on Twitter her regret for making the comments.
“His leading questions about death and persona were calculated,” Del Rey wrote. Both, Cobain and Del Rey have since deleted their tweets on the subject, however Cobain then posted another tweet saying that she wasn’t slamming Del Rey for the comment.
I’m not attacking anyone. I have no animosity towards Lana, I was just trying to put things in perspective from personal experience.
