[xtypo_dropcap]F[/xtypo_dropcap]rench air travel has suffered significantly since Tuesday morning when some air traffic controllers went on strike to protest the reorganization of European skyways.
Summer holiday departures were seriously hindered as 10 percent of flights leaving from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport were canceled.
Paris’s Orly airport canceled half of its flights on Wednesday, according to AFP. The Marseille Provence airport in southern France, a popular summer holiday destination, canceled over 20 percent of flights.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) said the strike, in which 30 percent of air traffic controllers are participating, disrupted most French airports.
The striking workers are from smaller unions. A larger majority of air traffic controllers, 53 percent, according to Le Monde, support the plan to reorganize European skies into nine airspace blocks.
The strike is scheduled to end Thursday morning, Le Monde reports.
