ESCONDIDO, Calif.—Enjoying Shen Yun’s January 21 matinee performance were Catherine Ostheimer, director of family ministry for Meadowlark Community Church and a dancer, and her husband John Ostheimer, a solar technician.
“We love the show. Love it. I’m actually a dancer myself, so I really, really appreciate the technique and artistry, the costumes and the music. I love it all,” said Mrs. Ostheimer.
“I was trained in modern ballet, jazz, ethnic dance, and I studied Japanese dance,” she said. “This is incredible.”
Shen Yun Performing Arts is based out of New York with three companies that are currently on its 2012 world tour. The company’s mission is to restore ancient China’s culture through the art of dance, music, and song.
Shen Yun provides its audience with an understanding of China’s myths and legends and visits China’s Qing dynasty, Taiwanese dancers, the story of the Monkey King from the famed novel Journey to the West, and much more.
Mrs. Ostheimer said, “You can feel the culture and the costumes, and the music. It’s nice.”
Although the performance depicts ancient legends, Shen Yun incorporates the use of modern technology that includes a team of graphic designers using state-of-the-art computer graphics to design the scenic backdrops.
Mrs. Osthimer found the use of digitally animated background scenery “very whimsical. It makes it fun and lighthearted. It’s very good.”
As a birthday present Mr. Osthimer brought his wife to the performance, saying, “she loves to dance … and we’re having a good time.”
“I love the show. It’s beautiful. It’s great,” he said.
