A couple in Florida apparently posted a picture of a steak and macaroni cheese dinner to Instagram, enabling police to track them down.
Authorities found the couple, Nathaniel Maye and Tiwanna Thomason, based on the picture, and from information from a tipster who said a man named Troy, Nathaniel’s middle name, had bragged about stealing 700,000 identities. The break in the case came when the couple allegedly met with the tipster, who was working undercover for the IRS, at Morton’s, handing over a flash drive with 50,000 identities that they thought was going to be used to file fraudulent income tax returns.
The Instagram photo from Morton’s steakhouse is being used as evidence against the couple, according to the Sun-Sentinel. The couple pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft and possession of unauthorized devices on May 10.
