NEW YORK—A fast spreading two-alarm fire broke out and destroyed a popular family owned and operated Irish pub, Connolly’s Pub and Restaurant, on West 45th Street, Manhattan, during a busy Saturday afternoon.
After fire broke out in the kitchen area, the flames quickly spread throughout the old, picturesque wooden building, according to FDNY.
One civilian and one firefighter were injured, Deputy Chief Anthony DeVita said.
“Job gone,” commented one of the pub workers as she watched the smoldering site from across the street.
DeVita said the fire spreads fast in wooden-frame buildings. Some 100 firefighters battled the flames for about an hour.
The pub was a hangout for fans of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, according to the pub’s website.
