A father left his eight-month-old child in an unlocked car with the engine running as he worked out at the gym, according to reports.
Solomon Allen, a personal trainer, went to the gym to work out rather than look after his child on Friday, the Los Angeles Times reported. He met with a client for an hour and a half in Hollywood.
A passerby noticed the child crying alone in the car outside 24 Hour Fitness. Since the doors were open, they were able to comfort the baby.
Allen, 25, was arrested on child endangerment charges, police said.
“The car was unlocked; citizens were able to safely remove the infant,” Officer Drake Madison told the LA Times.
The baby was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Police were called into a report of a child left unattended in a parked vehicle at around 9 a.m. on Friday.
Madison said the findings of a police investigation were disturbing. “Being a father myself, that just really bothers me,” he said.
Allen is being held on $100,000 bail.
The mother of the child then came to pick the baby up.
Social media accounts for Allen say that he’s founder and CEO of FitFiend Activewear, reported the New York Daily News.
