LONDON—Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company performed to a full house at the London Coliseum on Friday, April 13.
It is the second time a Shen Yun Performing Arts Company has visited the London Coliseum, which is the largest theatre in the English capital.
“It’s absolutely exquisite. I’m overwhelmed,” Alice Champion, a retired fashion designer, said of the evening’s performance. “The costumes and the colours and the artists - it’s absolutely outstanding.”
As soon as she heard about Shen Yun Mrs. Champion thought, “I have to see it!”
“It exceeded my expectations,” she said. “It’s perfect. I loved the songs and words. I get a feeling that they ... believe everything they are doing.”
She went on to praise the combination of colours used in the costumes, saying that from a fashion designer’s perspective it was “amazing”.
Annie MacMillan, an ex-civil servant who saw the same performance, found it so beautiful it was “hard to put into words”.
“Whoever put it together knows what he’s doing,” she said.
In reviving traditional Chinese Culture, a Shen Yun performance presents scenes from different dynasties of Chinese history. “Every costume in a Shen Yun performance is presented with brilliant colours, displaying a splendid spectacle,” according to the Shen Yun website.
Apart from bringing genuine, traditional Chinese culture back to life on stage, Shen Yun also brings to life modern-day stories of courage in China.
“They’re sending you a message. Amidst all the beauty, there is still suffering. Absolutely interesting,” Mrs. MacMillan concluded.
