On July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party launched its brutal persecution campaign against Falun Gong. Overnight, roughly 100 million peaceful meditators in China—people living by the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance—were targeted by the state. They were rounded up, arrested, tortured, and killed; friends and family members were harassed and threatened; and the all-encompassing state media blanketed the country with anti-Falun Gong propaganda.
For the past 18 years, the persecution has continued unabated. Yet, despite immense pressure and personal risk, people in China continue to practice Falun Gong. And around the world, supporters and fellow-practitioners work to pressure the Chinese regime to end the persecution.
