NEW YORK—Two emergency medical workers who rushed to help a wounded police officer were honored at the NYPD promotion ceremony on Feb. 28.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton praised the two workers, Khadija Hall and Shaun Alexander, and awarded a commemorative plaque.
“This is a powerful example of what this force does every day,” de Blasio said.
Hall and Alexander were both off duty when they rushed to help James Li when he was shot three times. Li and his partner first encountered the shooting suspect after he boarded a bus without paying the fare in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
The suspect, Rashun Robinson, 28, of Brooklyn, shot at the officers as they chased him, hitting Li three times. Two bullets hit Li in the legs and the third in the groin. Commissioner Bratton said Friday that Li was still in pain, but recovering.
De Blasio also praised the community in Crown heights for helping the police chase down and arrest the suspect.
