For the second year in a row, the Electric Zoo Festival held in Randall’s Island in New York City was forced to cancel its final night. This time, the festivities were cancelled because of strong thunderstorms that passed through the area at around 4:30 P.M. Tens of thousands of disgruntled fans left the island to seek shelter away from the downpour.

Last year, Electric Zoo officials cancelled the final day of the three-day festival after two fans died from overdosing on MDMA, leaving many who bought tickets to the Sunday portion cheated because of a few individuals that decided to take the drug.

“We apologize to fans, but your safety is our main concern. For those currently at Electric Zoo, please follow all NYPD and EZoo security instructions,” Electric Zoo said on their website.

Sunday night’s lineup would have provided sets for Kaskade, Alesso, Terrence Parker, Jack U, Showtek and ATB on designated stages. Some artists expressed their disappointment on social media about the sudden cancellation.

Alesso tweeted: “Nooooo I can’t believe this!! I was so looking forward to play !!! looks like its clearing up? will the show go on?” while ATB wrote on his official Facebook page: “NY.. Where is the Sun?? :o("

The Electric Zoo festival along with premier festival Electric Daisy Carnival have been rising in popularity in recent years, as more electronic artists are crossing over into the mainstream pop charts and the scene is growing by the day.
