It’s been months since I started organizing a charity fashion show event for the children of SOS Children’s Villages. I’ve encountered so many volunteers from fashion models, chefs, performers, photographers and fashion designers. I had initially dealt with fashion designer Carlous Palmer, one of the six nominiees of Fashion Awards MD. Due to another opportunity in the East Coast, he had referred me to another talented fashion designer/hair stylist, Edward Harvey. I was really impressed with his cool, youthful and funky clothing designs and his hair styling techiques. I really felt lucky to have been given a chance to work with Edward.
Edward started his styling career after seven years in the business. His experiences culminated his appointment as a hair stylist for the legendary exclusive DC Fashion Week, Fashion Awards MD Hype Hair Magazine. Edward has been a licensed hair stylist for about three years now and he currently specializes in multi-dimensional color and highlighting. Edward is also very skilled in custom extensions and styling make-overs. In 2013, Edward landed as one the finalists in RAW Artists of DC, a best in class organization of underground hair stylist professionals.
Edward honed his skills at The Fila Academy, a Paul Mitchell Beauty School. He studied with some of the most respected professionals in the beauty industry, including Evie Johnson, celebrity stylist Charese Adkins, and Golden Scissors Awards winner and celebrity stylist Elicia Moore. Edward furthered his artistic techniques in color, cutting, styling by traveling regularly to fashion centers in Europe and major US cities such as New York, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Miami and New Jersey. You also would see Edward on most international beauty trade shows. Moreover, Howard Magazine -- a statewide fashion publication featured Edward in action on its cover. He also worked as a hair stylist for a New York Fashion Week event at Bryant Park.
What I admired about Edward is that fact that aside from being a talented stylist, I found out that he dedicates some of his time creating hair designs for cancer and alopecia patients in the DC metro area. It’s not everyday that you see someone devoting his/her time to help those who are in need. Edward mentioned that he strives to be a “Hair Icon” and “Inspire Creative Artistry”. With the rate he is going now, he will make it big -- bigger than what he is now.
You can catch Edward “The Stylist” Harvey at the Step Up -- Modeling for a Cause charity fashion show event on May 10, 6pm - 9pm at the Unitarian Church of All Souls in Manhattan.
