Ebola Zombies? Man Said to Have Died from Ebola Wakes Up as ‘Rise from the Dead’ Reports Go Viral

Six months into the world’s worst-ever Ebola outbreak, and the first to happen in an unprepared West Africa, the gap between what has been sent by other countries and private groups and what is desperately needed is huge. Even as countries try to marshal more resources to close the gap, those needs threaten to become much greater, and possibly even insurmountable. AP Photo/Jerome Delay

A Liberian man who locals believed to have died from Ebola was actually alive and woke up.

According to ABC News, a community leader in Monrovia said he was trying to get help for the man for days but when he said the man was dead, the burial team arrived in an hour.

“We couldn’t get him help when he was alive,” a community leader told ABC. “They only come when you die.”

The ABC reporter on the scene said that as the team approached the body on the wall, the man moved his arm.

“He’s alive,” someone then said.

There’s been a spate of rumors about “zombies” coming back from the dead in West Africa due to the Ebola virus.

About a week ago, Liberian publication New Dawn posted a story that claims two patients came back from the dead.

“Two Ebola patients, who died of the virus in separate communities in Nimba County have reportedly resurrected in the county. The victims, both females, believed to be in their 60s and 40s respectively, died of the Ebola virus recently in Hope Village Community and the Catholic Community in Ganta, Nimba,” it reads.

“But to the amazement of residents and onlookers on Monday, the deceased reportedly regained life in total disbelief. The NewDawn Nimba County correspondent said the late Dorris Quoi of Hope Village Community and the second victim only identified as Ma Kebeh, said to be in her late 60s, were about to be taken for burial when they resurrected,” said the paper, via Snopes.com, a hoax-debunking website.

It’s likely that the victims were still alive and were near-death due to the illness.

However, users on social media websites ran with the rumor, posting up questions and comments about Ebola being linked to a “zombie apocalypse.”
