HONG KONG—Khalsa-A put on another devastating display of top class hockey last Sunday Jan 11, in their Hong Kong Hockey Association Premier-A Division match, to defeat KNS-A 12-0 at the King’s Park Hockey Ground.
KNS-A had no answer to the disciplined formation, accuracy of passing, surging runs and inspired shooting produced by this elite team. KNS-A went a goal down when they incurred a penalty corner just 4-minutes into the game. They were 2-goals down after 5-minutes and 3-goals down after just 8-minutes. That shows the disparity between the two sides. Khalsa-A continued to attack producing goals at regular intervals to go into the half time break 9-0. The second half was more subdued producing just 3-goals for the game to end 12-0 to the Khalsa-A side.
Division leaders SSSC-A also stamped their superiority on their match with Valley-A in the following match at King’s Park, winning the tie 5-1 to keep them top of the standings on 34 points just 1-point ahead of the Khalsa-A the defending Champions.
Punjab-A vs HKFC-A
But probably the most entertaining match of the weekend, played at the HKFC ground was the game between Punjab-A, currently 3rd in the standings and 4th placed HKFC-A. The last match between the two teams also played at the Football Club ground was equally entertaining with Punjab-A running out 3-2 winners.
Sunday’s match started in a similar vein to the last one in that HKFC-A produced the first goal which was quickly cancelled by the Punjab side. Punjab-A then added two more goals much to the pleasure of their supporters for the team to go into the half-time break 3-1 in the lead. Up to this point and indeed for the first 10 minutes of the second half, the HKFC side had been looking rather ordinary.
But at that point, as if a switch had been thrown, HKFC-A noticeably upped the speed of their game and started to produce fast accurate passes, penetrating the Punjab defence, sparking the game onto another level. Several of their attacks came to naught then a hard shot from the left was blocked by the Punjab goalie, but a HKFC-A attacker pounced on it and pushed it into the goal for a 2-3 score. Game on! HKFC scored again with a wicked deflection into the goal with 20 minutes remaining. It was then all out attack at both ends ending with a penalty corner to Punjab at the final whistle, but great defence by Club kept the ball out of the net. The match ended 3-3.
